Adrianne Massey – Biologist/Biotechnology Policy 
Adrianne Massey holds a PhD in Zoology from North Carolina State University and BSc and MSc degrees in biological sciences from the University of Georgia, with a focus on ecological and evolutionary genetics. Her consulting firm, A. Massey & Associates, works with governments, non-profit organisations, companies, scientific organisations and educational institutions to influence policy development and improve public understanding of science and science-related issues. Before starting her own company, Adrianne was a vice president at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center where she directed the Center’s award-winning public education and workforce training programs. She was responsible for facilitating biotechnology policy consensus-building activities among the Center’s many stakeholder groups. Prior to joining the Center, she was on the faculty of North Carolina State University and taught courses in tropical ecology in Costa Rica for the Organization of Tropical Studies and Duke University. Adrianne has authored two textbooks on biotechnology, both published by the American Society for Microbiology, and was an invited contributor to the Office of Technology Assessment’s report on the potential ecological impacts of genetically modified organisms. She served as the science advisor for the television series Breakthrough: Television’s Journal of Science and Medicine, was involved in the international negotiations of the Cartagena Protocol, has served as a science ambassador in developing countries for the US State Department, and directed the Program for Biosafety Systems education and outreach activities.
