| Robert L Harness – Independent Consultant, Biotech Policy |
Robert L Harness is an independent consultant specialising in biotechnology policy, product regulatory approval and public acceptance programs. He has advised technology companies and research institutions engaged in applications of biotechnology in plant and animal agriculture. He has been closely involved in the development and implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and throughout his career has worked on regulatory programs applied to agricultural products in every world region. He was formerly International Government Affairs Lead for Monsanto Company with responsibility for biotechnology product acceptance in Asia, Latin America and global emerging markets. Prior to that, for 15 years, he was global lead of Monsanto’s agricultural products Regulatory and Government Affairs organisation. In this position he worked on the successful regulatory approval and introduction of the first agricultural biotechnology products in the United States, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Robert holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, USA and a Master of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He has participated in numerous industry technology/advocacy task groups and has been on the Board of Directors of several civic and philanthropic organisations. |
